Finidi Demands More from Enyimba’s Attack

Enyimba head coach Finidi George says his side must be clinical in front of goal following their slim victory over Heartland FC on Tuesday evening.

The match which saw Enyimba secure a hard-fought win over their struggling neighbors, relied on a decisive 35th-minute strike from Ekene Awaziem to get the three points.

After the game, Finidi, says it’s important for his side to capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities and be efficient in front of the net as they as they aim to retain their title.

“Yeah it feels good to win games, we knew it was going to be a tough one because you know they are fighting to survive,” the Enyimba coach stated.

“We had all the chances to score more goals it didn’t happen, at a time I was a little bit scared they would equalise but am quite happy, I told the boys they should win this game for my birthday and happy they did.”

Finidi, provided reasons on why he played midfielders, Chibuike Nwaiwu and Daniel Daga in the heart of the defense during the game.

“A lot of injuries, even Chibuike we had to convert him and you see today Paschal Left and we have to improvise.

“I wanted to bring in the young boy Obi, he is a defender but I thought that in a match like this, he might be jittery so I had to bring in Cooper but it all worked well and we are quite happy with the victory wish is the most important thing and now we can plan for the next game.

The gaffer then heaped praises on Nwaiwu for helping the team in difficult period and critical part of the campaign.

“He has been doing so well for centre-backs, you need a fast player and I think he has that quality, that calmness and he has the speed you can’t run him down.

“He has been helping us for now and we have 8 games I don’t know if he is going to continue, I just have to see the form of other players in that role be we might bring him back to midfield but at the moment he is still there.”

After 30 round of matches, Enyimba are second on table — three points adrift leaders Rangers.
