FIFA U20 World Cup: Ibrahim Muhammad relishes “sweet” victory over Argentina

Flying Eagles winger, Ibrahim Muhammad says he’s aware bookmakers didn’t give them a chance to beat host, Argentina when the teams met in the FIFA U20 World Cup, round of 16 match, on Wednesday.

Muhammad scored one of the goals as Ladan Bosso’s tutored side eliminated the hosts from the competition.

The Winger opened scoring for the Flying Eagles, smashing in a low ball on 61 minutes.

Deep into stoppage time, Rilwanu Sarki headed into empty net, to seal the huge win for Nigeria.

Muhammad said they were determined to beat the host nation, who many tipped as the overwhelming favourites to win the Round of 16 contest.

“I really appreciate my teammates for their efforts to win.

“We knew, people didn’t give us a chance to beat them, that was not on my mind. We were comfortable, my teammates and I, and that’s football,” he said.

The seven-time African Champions will now play either Korea Republic or Ecuador for a place in the semi-final of the tournament.
