FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: We Want to Maintain Our Winning Mentality – Danjuma

Nigeria U20 WNT head coach, Christopher Danjuma has affirmed that the Falconets are determined to secure a triumph over their Mexican counterparts when both teams face off in a friendly match at the Club Banco de la República in Bogota on Monday evening.

In preparation for the upcoming U20 Women’s World Cup, which kicks off on August 31st in Colombia, the Nigerian Football Federation has scheduled two friendly games to fine-tune the team with the Falconets claiming a 2-1 victory over Australia in their first warm-up match.

“Our victory over Australia was such a sweet one, but I have told the ladies to drive it into the recesses of their minds and concentrate on Monday’s encounter. We need another victory to sustain our winning mentality. We won five of our six qualifying matches with healthy score lines and have now added victory over the Australia,” Danjuma said on the NFF website.

“As I keep saying at every turn, the FIFA World Cup finals here will not be easy. The fact that we are up against the Korea Republic and three-time winners Germany in our first two matches means we need to be at our best physically, mentally and psychologically.

Physically and mentally, I believe we are in shape. Psychologically, we are good, and we will be great if we defeat the Mexicans to go into the competition unbeaten.”

The Falconets will begin their World Cup campaign on September 2 against South Korea, followed by a clash with Germany two days later, before rounding off their group stage matches against Venezuela on September 7.

The girls are determined to go all the way this time, aiming to improve on their runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2014.
