FIFA U17 WWC: New Zealand’s Coach Gunn Reacts to Heavy Defeat Against Nigeria

New Zealand head coach, Alana Gunn has responded to her team’s 4-1 defeat to Nigeria in their opening match at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, on Wednesday night.

The Young Football Ferns, who are the reigning Oceania champions, conceded three quick goals within the first 28 minutes and allowed another 10 minutes after the break.

Hannah Saxon managed to score a consolation goal for New Zealand on the hour mark.

Speaking after the match, Gunn reflected on the importance of the goal.

“A goal is massive for us. It’s an awesome achievement from the team, and especially for Hannah, she’ll remember that type of moment forever,” Gunn told FIFA.com.

New Zealand will face hosts Dominican Republic in their next game.
