New Zealand’s U17 Women’s coach, Alana Gunn, believes her team has chances of a good performance ahead their World Cup opening game against Nigeria.
Nigeria and New Zealand are set to face off in the first group game scheduled for Wednesday (tonight at 21:00 GMT).
Speaking to New Zealand football media, Gunn drew inspiration from the country’s past successes on this stage.
“It is going to be a privilege to lead the team at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and I’m really pleased with the squad we have assembled after a competitive selection process.”
“Having a number of the squad be part of the group for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship last month has been good preparation for us. We are looking to build on that momentum and challenge ourselves at the highest level.”
“We know Aotearoa New Zealand has done great things at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and we want this generation to take inspiration from that success as we proudly represent the country in the Dominican Republic.”
