Coach Bankole Olowookere, head of Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, shared reports on their preparations for the World Cup during an interview on Sports Radio Brila FM.
With the tournament set to begin in the Dominican Republic, Olowookere revealed the team has been in camp for over a month, playing several friendly matches.
“We’ve been in camp for over a month, and the Federation has supported us well.”
“We’ve been playing friendly matches, including games against boys’ teams, to push the girls physically and mentally.”
Olowookere confirmed the high pressure following the disappointing performances of the U20s and Super Falcons in their respective tournaments.
“Yes, there is pressure. People are looking to us, but we’re focused on preparing well and doing our best. We want to make Nigeria proud,” said the Flamingos Coach.
“For me, the Dominican Republic is the toughest. We don’t know much about them, which makes them unpredictable. When you don’t know an opponent, they can surprise you.”
“We’re ready to handle the pressure and any surprises,” He concluded.
