Former Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu has suggested that Manu Garba must fix Golden Eaglets leaking defense, if they want to emerged as Champions of the world for the sixth time.
At the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, Golden Eaglets has conceeded four goals from two game , although they went on to win these matches.
The team will take on Australia in their last group game later tonight ( this Friday), Akwuegbu who represented Nigeria at this level in Scotland 89, believed the team has what it takes to excel in Brazil, but must fix their defense.
“I believe the Eaglets are good and have what it takes to go far in the tournament,”
“A strong defence gives the entire team confidence and once you keep conceding goals, the team will lose confidence and the end result is defeat.
“So, it is good that they have qualified for the next round irrespective of their ‘porous’ defence, but it is important they fix their defence because at this (knock out) stage, it could be difficult to come back once you go behind and that could rock the boat of their title ambition and cause Nigerians nightmare,” Akwuegbu said.
Nigeria will battle Australia at the Estadio Bezerrao stadium in Brasilia and a draw with guarantee their place on top of the table.
In other group game Hungary will lock horns with Ecuador and the game will hold at the Estadio Olimpico, Goiania.
