FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles Fall Eight Places

The Nigeria MNT, Super Eagles, have experienced a significant drop in the latest FIFA rankings, falling eight places to 38th globally.

Nigeria’s drop was as a result of the team’s disappointing performances in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for Africa.

Matches against South Africa and Benin ended in a draw and defeat respectively, jeopardizing their chances of qualifying for the tournament.

These results have left Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the competition hanging in the balance as they sit four points behind Group C leaders Rwanda with only three points from four games.

Response from the NFF:

In response to the Super Eagles’ poor performance, the NFF announced plans to hire a technical adviser for the team in the coming weeks.

This decision follows the resignation of head coach Finidi George, who stepped down less than two months after his appointment.

His resignation was amid a controversy involving the proposed appointment of a technical adviser without notice.

The NFF has yet to officially comment on Finidi’s resignation or address Osimhen’s vitriol filled outburst.

Nigeria’s next competitive match will be in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers later this year.
