FIFA Ranking: Super Falcons Retains 36th Place

Nigeria have maintained their position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, despite a disappointing performance at the Paris Olympic Games.

According to the rankings released by FIFA on Friday, August 16, 2024, Nigeria retains its 36th position globally.

The team continues to assert its dominance in African women’s football, holding the top spot on the continent with 1,621.29 points.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana follows closely, with Morocco, Zambia, and Ghana completing the top five in Africa.

The eleven-time African champions qualified for the Olympics for the first time in sixteen years but faced challenges in the group stage, with Brazil, Spain, and Japan.

Nigeria ended up losing all three matches and was eliminated.

Despite these setbacks, the Super Falcons’ overall performance was enough to sustain their strong standing both continentally and globally.

On the world stage, the United States reclaimed the top spot after winning Olympic gold, while Brazil’s silver medal lifted them to eighth.

Spain, despite reaching the semi-final dropped to third, with England moving up to second. Germany and Sweden complete the top five.

In the latest rankings, there were no new entrants, with all teams maintaining their positions in the continental standings:

1. Nigeria – 36th

2. South Africa – 50th

3. Morocco – 59th

4. Zambia – 62nd

5. Ghana – 66th

6. Cameroon – 69th

7. Ivory Coast – 71st

8. Tunisia – 78th

9. Mali – 81st

10. Equatorial Guinea – 82nd

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on December 20, 2024.
