Nigeria jumped two spots in the latest FIFA ranking from 40th to 38th position globally and moved to fourth on the continent in the ranking released on June 1.
The Three-time African champions accumulated four points in the period under review (May)to move slightly in the form ranking – though there were no competitive national team matches played.
Egypt lead the pack on the continent and are the only African team in the World top 20.
The Pharaohs dropped a spot from 19, replaced by Costa Rica.
Senegal and African champions, Cameroon are second and third on the continent respectively.
Nigeria’s opponent in Thursday’s friendly, Togo, are ranked 30th (112 in the World), while Bafana Bafana; who Nigeria play on June 10 in a 2019 Afcon qualifier, are ranked 12th dropping one spot.
But, there was no change in the top 10 world ranking with Brazil in pole and their South American neighbors, Argentina in second position.
World Champion, Germany are third while current COPA America champions are placed fourth.
UEFA EURO 2016 champions, Portugal, who will take part in this month’s FIFA Confederations Cup are ranked 8th in the world.
The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 6 July 2017.
