FC Porto Sign Omorodion

Portuguese side, FC Porto has officially announced the signing of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal.

After a failed move to Chelsea, despite having already undergone a medical, the 20-year-old striker has now completed his transfer to Porto.

In an official announcement, FC Porto confirmed the addition of the 1.94m striker, who will remain at the Estadio do Dragão until the summer of 2029.

Porto will pay €15 million for 50% of Omorodion’s economic rights, with a contract running until 2029.

The agreement includes a €100 million release clause and two optional buyouts to secure an additional 15% of his rights for €5 million each.

Last season, Omorodion scored nine goals and provided one assist in 36 appearances across all competitions for Alavés, where he was on loan.

Omorodion on His Move

In his first remarks after joining FC Porto, Omorodion expressed his enthusiasm and his readiness

“It is an honour to be part of a club with the enormous history of FC Porto. I know the responsibility of playing here, where forwards such as Gomes, Jardel, Falcao, and Jackson Martínez have played, but I know I am ready,” Omorodion said on Porto’s official website.

Omorodion will play alongside Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi, who has been with the Portuguese champions since 2020.

Eligible to Play for Nigeria

Born in Melilla, Spain, to Nigerian parents, Omorodion moved to Seville as a child. He began his career at AD Nervión before joining Granada.

He was part of the Spanish squad at the Olympic Games, where he scored once in four appearances, helping Luis de la Fuente’s team clinch gold in men’s football.

While Omorodion is eligible to play for Nigeria, it appears he is committed to representing Spain.
