Family Reveals Cause of Jerry Okorodudu’s death

Champion, Jerry Okorodudu has passed, on Wednesday, in a Lagos hospital at the age of 64.

Okorodudu, one of Nigeria’s finest Boxer and Coach, gave up the ghost in Lagos hospital after a long battle with illness.

 

The daughter of the late boxer, Emily confirmed the news to BrilaFM, in an exclusive interview.

“He was sick, he had diabetes and that was what led to his death.

“He’s no longer in the hospital, he has been taken to the morgue already. We’re holding up,” said the distraught daughter of the former Champion.

Okorodudu represented Nigeria at many international competitions, and won numerous medals.

He was a gold medalist in 1979 National Sports Festival and followed it up with a bronze medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.

He represented Nigeria at the 1984 Olympic Games, where he became the first Nigerian boxer to reach quarter-finals.

In total, he had 83 amateur fights and 40 professional bouts between 1986 and 1992.
