Super Falcons assistant coach Maureen Madu has stated that the team is set to not only participate but go all out to win the WAFU cup in Ivory coast and that the tournament will also serve as a platform for the home-based players to play themselves into the women’s world cup team.
Madu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the team has one main mission which is to defend the Falcon’s position as the best in Africa there at the regional competition while also admitting that the rest of Africa are thoroughly working to catch up with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
“We are going there to do out best and we also want to use this opportunity to use that competition to prepare ourselves for the world cup.
“We came third last time but our aim is to do our best and bring back the cup for Nigeria. I think they are trying to catch up with us but we are doing our best to defend our position in Africa.
“It’s a tournament to showcase our home based as well and their performance will decide their inclusion in the world cup bound team.”
Nigeria’s women national team will start against Burkina Faso, after which they play Niger and end their group stage game with Mali.
