Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s team assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi has set an ambitious target for the team to go beyond their 2010 silver medal at the upcoming Women’s U-20 World Cup in Colombia.
In a chat with Brila.net, Abdullahi emphasized the importance of early preparations and expressed confidence in the team’s potential to make history.
“This is not the first time that a Nigerian women’s team has achieved something significant at the World Cup. The Falconets secured a silver medal in Germany in 2010. Our aim now is to surpass that achievement,” Abdullahi stated.
“For the Under-17 team, winning a medal for the first time is a remarkable milestone, and it’s a good foundation to build upon.”
“The NFF leadership understands the importance of early camping and preparations. The World Cup is scheduled for October, and we plan to start our camp next month, giving us ample time to prepare,” he said.
“Our goal is clear: to go beyond the record of the 2010 World Cup and bring home the trophy from Colombia.”
As the team looks forward to resuming camp and intensifying their preparations, Abdullahi expressed hope and determination, aiming for nothing less than a historic victory.
“We are determined to go to Colombia and win the trophy. With the right preparation and support, we believe that we can achieve this goal by the special grace of God,” he concluded.
