Former Nigeria international Emeka Ezeugo has accused the Super Eagles of being plagued by “back door business,” which he claims is the primary reason for the team’s underperformance.
Ezeugo, who earned 11 caps for the national team and represented Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup, did not hold back while speaking on Brila FM.
He argued that questionable decisions in player and coaching selections have hindered the team’s success.
“There is so much back door business going on in the team. How will they succeed?” Ezeugo said.
The former Enugu Rangers midfielder was critical of the system, alleging that players and coaches who lack merit are being brought into the team through improper channels.
“It is payback time we are witnessing right now. Whether you like it or not, bring Mourinho or Pep Guardiola together to coach the team, they will never succeed. Why? Because you are bringing the wrong players, players who are not supposed to be in the national team through the back door.
You’re also bringing in coaches who don’t deserve to be there the same way.”
Ezeugo emphasized that Nigeria has the talent required to succeed but believes the system needs an overhaul to identify and develop the right players.
“The players are there in Nigeria, but we have to get the right ones. We shouldn’t be using these players coming through the back door.”
His comments underline a call for transparency and meritocracy in the selection process for both players and coaches if the Super Eagles are to return to their former glory.
