Exclusive: Milutin Sredojevic Clears Air on Libya “Sack”, His Future and Conditions for Contract Renewal

Embattled Libya national team coach, Milutin Sredojević has addressed rumors surrounding his future amid reports that he has been sacked following the team’s disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, qualifiers.

Libya currently sits at bottom of Group D with just one point after two rounds of matches.

Despite the speculation, Sredojević, who was appointed in October 2023, confirmed that he has not been fired.

However, he revealed that his contract, which is set to expire at the end of this month, remains under review.

In an exclusive interview with Brila FM, the Serbian tactician disclosed that he has placed specific conditions on his contract renewal, which may not be met.

“My contract will expire at the end of this month. I have set conditions that they cannot fulfill due to the big tension between Tripoli and Benghazi. We shall see what happens next,” Sredojević said.

Sredojevic had led Libya to nine victories prior to the start of the qualifiers, however, his side has struggled in the ongoing campaign.

Libya drew 1-1 at home against Rwanda before suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Benin, despite taking an early lead in the match.

Up next, Libya faces Nigeria’s Super Eagles in crucial back-to-back AFCON qualifiers. The first leg will take place in Uyo on October 7, while the return fixture is scheduled for Tripoli on October 14-15.

With Libya’s qualification hopes hanging by a thread, Micho’s future with the team remains uncertain, as his conditions and the internal tensions within Libyan football may determine the next steps.
