With concerns growing over the Super Falcons’ lack of activity in the buildup to the 2025 WAFCON, former assistant coach Mansur Abdullahi insists that there is “no need to panic.”
Speaking in a recent interview, Abdullahi backed the leadership of the NFF to take the right steps ahead of the continental tournament, which kicks off in three months.
“I think everybody has his personal opinion,” he said. “And I think the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation are not just holding their hands.”
He further praised the administrative capacity of the NFF:
“We have a powerful General Secretary, who is also a senior CAF instructor when it comes to coaching and education.”
The NFF Will Act in the Next Window
Abdullahi believes the next FIFA international window will be used to organize friendlies for the Super Falcons, especially as most of the players are currently active with their clubs in Europe and Africa.
“I think any moment from now, the Nigeria Football Federation should be able to come up in the next window for the Super Falcons to have friendly matches.”
“It’s not like it’s a month to the Nations Cup. It’s still three months away.”
“Most of these girls are playing, none of the leagues is on holiday.”
“All the leagues are on, both in Africa and in Europe.”
A Timely Reminder, Not a Crisis
While the Super Falcons have not played since qualifying for WAFCON in December 2024, Abdullahi remains optimistic that the NFF will not squander the time left.
“So I believe, I have the confidence, that in the next window—by the special grace of God—the Nigeria Football Federation will not allow it to pass like that.”
Looking Ahead to Morocco
Nigeria, drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, are eyeing their record-extending 12th WAFCON title.
Preparations are crucial, and Mansur Abdullahi is confident friendlies will come in next international window and that the federation’s planning will soon be matched by action on the pitch.
