Super Falcons midfielder, Tony Payne was in action at the weekend when Everton Women managed to break their goal drought with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in the Women’s Super League.
This match marked Everton’s first goal of the season after three consecutive scoreless games.
Crystal Palace initially took the lead in the 10th minute, thanks to Anouk Denton, who netted her first league goal following smart build-up play involving Viviane Asseyi.
Everton’s equalizer came through an unfortunate own goal by Palace’s Camila Saez, who deflected Melissa Lawley’s cross into her net during the second half.
Despite having the better overall play, Everton continued their season-long struggle with finishing.
In a determined push for a winner, Megan Finnigan and Katja Snoeijs saw their stoppage-time efforts cleared off the line, while Honoka Hayashi came close with a sliding attempt at the back post.
This draw leaves both Everton and Palace winless after four WSL matches, each sitting with just two points.
Everton, having gone without a home victory since their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace in February, fell short of repeating that success this time around.
