It was a good outing for Nigerian strikers in the UEFA Europa League last night as four among them got on the scorer’s sheet.
It was the first time Four Nigerian forwards will be scoring in a UEFA competition on the same night in the history of the competition.
Super Eagles striker Kayode Olanrewaju scored for Sivasspor in their 2 – 3 away win against Qarabag.
Olanrewaju netted his team’s second goal of the game and has now scored four goals in the competition this campaign.
The former Manchester City player also became the first Nigerian player to score in four consecutive Europa league game since Victor Moses achieved the feat back in 2012.
In another venue, Peter Olayinka scored as Slavia Prague ran away 3-1 winners against OGC Nice.
Olayinka found the back of the net in the 65th minute to move his side top of the Group.
The third striker is Folarin Balogun scored in Arsenal’s 3 – 0 win in Norway against Molde.
Balogun, 19, scored 35 seconds after his introduction into the game on Thursday.
His goal sealed Arsenal’s progress to the round of 32 in fine style; as the Gunners picked their fourth straight group win.
Meanwhile, Balogun has represented England at the U17 and U18 youth levels, but is still eligible to represent Nigeria.
Another player from Thursday night who makes the list based on eligibility is PSV Eindhoven’s Noni Madueke.
PSV trailed PAOK Saloniki by two goals, but goals from Madueke, Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo sealed a dramatic comeback win for the Dutch giants.
