Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes delivered a dramatic stoppage-time winner to seal a 2-1 victory over Rangers in their Europa League group stage clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.
United controlled much of the first half and thought they had taken an early lead when Matthijs de Ligt headed in from a corner.
However, the goal was disallowed after VAR confirmed a foul by Leny Yoro on Rangers defender Davy Propper.
Rangers showed resilience, with Hamza Igamane nearly stunning the home crowd with a long-range strike that United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır brilliantly saved.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Christian Eriksen’s corner was mishandled by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, resulting in an own goal.
Rangers mounted a spirited comeback and equalized in the 88th minute when substitute Cyril Dessers fired home to silence the Old Trafford faithful.
However, in the dying moments of added time, Fernandes rose to the occasion, slotting in the decisive goal to secure all three points for United.
The win lifts Manchester United to fourth place in the group with 15 points, keeping them on track for automatic qualification to the Europa League round of 16.
