Oghenekaro Etebo made his fifth league appearance for Getafe CF in the match against relegation battling Real Mallorca at the Iberostar Stadium on Sunday, and he put on a show, his best performance so far since his move from Stoke City in January.
After an impressive debut season, Etebo suffered a deep in form and injury followed.
Fewer game time in the latter days of this Stoke City career and the club’s dwindling fortunes forced him to depart for Spain, for a second spell.
Since joining Getafe CF, the midfielder has made five league appearances and on Sunday, it seemed he had fully adapted to his new team.
Etebo was deployed on the right side of a four-man midfield, a position he has played for the most at Getafe, but with more fluidity and freedom to go forward.
The midfielder imposed himself and was involved defensively as well as in the team’s attacking spells, managing to get three shots away as he surged forward.
Nemanja Maksimovic scored what proved the winner in the 67th minute as the club climbed to 4th in the league table.
The Nigerian’s impact was mostly felt in the middle of the pack, on his defensive duties.
He attempted 5 tackles, completed 4 successful interceptions, 1 block and won two successful aerial balls.
José Bordalás allowed the player 89 minutes, the most minutes he has played in all competitions for the club and he scored 6.98 rating per whoscored, his highest from all his league game appearances.
The player himself was excited about the outcome of the game in a tweet:
Tough game but we got what we came for +3 🔵 vamos @GetafeCF pic.twitter.com/qCacslEZMe

For the rest of the season, Etebo will only look forward to playing in the league for Getafe.
He was not registered by Bordalas for the side’s Europa League knockout round and they were eliminated from this season’s Copa del Rey in the second round after the 2-0 defeat to Badalona.
The next league fixture will be at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez when Getafe hosts struggling Celta Vigo.
