Ese Brume successfully defended her Africa women’s long jump title at the 2024 Africa Senior Athletics Championship in Cameroon.

Brume leaped from second place with a massive 6.73m in her final attempt, overtaking Burkina Faso’s Marthe Koala, who had been leading with a 6.72m jump after five attempts.

This victory is Brume’s fourth Africa women’s long jump title, adding to her previous wins in Marrakesh (2014), Durban (2016), and Asaba (2018).

Despite her impressive performance, Brume’s jump fell short of the 6.86m required for the 2024 Olympics qualification standard.

Nevertheless, she has secured her ticket to Paris through her ranking.

Another Nigerian athlete, Prestina Ochonogor, also competed and finished fourth with a jump of 6.28m.
