Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Algerian club MC Oran and its supporters as he begins his new chapter as Nigeria’s head coach.
The 47-year-old tactician leaves the club on a high note, having guided his team to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over USM Sétif in the Algeria Cup, securing their place in the quarter-finals.
Speaking after the match, Chelle candidly admitted that the opportunity to coach the Super Eagles was too significant to pass up, despite the emotional toll of leaving MC Oran.
“I have the chance to join the best team in Africa and one of the best in the world. It’s true that I’m very selfish.
But once again, I thank the Algerians, as well as the Oran public for the welcome.
The MCO will always have a special place in my heart,” Chelle said, as quoted by Mediafootdz.
Chelle, who took over MC Oran in October 2024, described his time at the club as unforgettable and promised to always hold it close to his heart.
“This is my last meeting with you and it marks the end of my adventure here.
From Monday, I will be in Nigeria to start a new chapter,” he said during his post-match media interaction.
The outgoing coach also acknowledged the unwavering support he received during his tenure, expressing appreciation to the club’s management, staff, and players.
“I thank my management, who always put me in the best conditions, as well as my staff and all my players,” Chelle added.
Chelle’s appointment as Super Eagles coach has generated significant expectations, as he is set to lead the team through critical campaigns, including the African Nations Championship and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
He is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Monday to officially sign his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
