Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesus Owono expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after securing a 1-1 draw against the formidable Super Eagles.
The Nzalang Nacional took the lead in the 36th minute when Ivan Salvador found the back of the net, putting Equatorial Guinea in a promising position
However, Nigeria swiftly responded, with Victor Osimhen equalizing immediately.
Owono, the standout performer of the match, thwarted Osimhen and Sanusi’s attempts, denying Nigeria the opportunity to clinch victory. His exceptional saves earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match.
In a post-match interview, Owono praised his teammates for their collective effort, highlighting the unity and resilience that contributed to holding the Super Eagles to a draw.
“The unity in our team made the difference for us against Nigeria,” he told a press conference after the game.
“Our strength was the teamwork we showed on the pitch. We were not scared and took the game to them.”
Equitorial Guinea will now face Guinea-Bissau while Nigeria will face hosts Cote D’Ivoire in their next game on Thursday.
