Enyimba’s hopes of retaining the league title took a significant hit following a frustrating 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Bayelsa United on matchday 36 in Aba.

Enyimba initially took the lead through Alade Balogun’s well-placed finish in the 27th minute.

However, Bayelsa United managed to equalize just ten minutes later, leveling the score at 1-1.

Enyimba’s leading scorer, Chijioke Mbaoma, came close to regaining the lead for the hosts in the second half with a powerful shot, but his effort was denied by the opposition goalkeeper.

The draw leaves the defending champions four points behind league leaders Rangers, with only two matches remaining in the season.

On the current standings, the People’s Elephant now sit third in the league standings, facing an uphill battle to reclaim the top spot.
