Enyimba, the two-time African champions, found themselves $1 million richer despite their exit from the inaugural Africa Football League.
The Elephants were defeated 4-0 on aggregate by Wydad Athletic Club, in the quarter final of the inaugural competition.
In Morocco, on Thursday, the Nigerian team suffered a miserable 3-0 loss to a commanding Wydad side. This defeat followed their 1-0 loss in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
Wydad Athletic Club took the lead in Morocco with Ayoub El Amloud scoring just four minutes into the match.
Jamal Harkass added the second goal in the 38th minute, and Yahia Attiyah Allah made it three in the 43rd minute, sealing Enyimba’s fate in the competition.
Ilyes Chetti came close to making it 4-0 for Wydad in the 72nd minute, but Ojo Olorunleke rushed out to prevent further danger.
Olorunleke was called into action again in the 78th minute, making an acrobatic save to stop a goal-bound header.
Enyimba were second best through out the game with Wydad dominating the match, with 63% possession compared to Enyimba’s 37%.
The Nigeria Premier League giants also crashed out of CAF Champions League in the gorst round, losing 4-3 to Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya.
