England boss Sarina Wiegman wary of Super Falcons

England manager Sarina Wiegman has warned her side against complacency ahead of round of 16 tie against Nigeria.

England are one of the three teams to win all three Group games at the FIFA World Cup.

The European also scored eight times in three games, and yet to let in a goal from open play.

All the impressive record will put to test against Nigeria’s Super Falcons who are unbeaten so far with two clean sheets from three matches.

Nigeria, 11-time African champions, are ranked 36 places lower than England but they qualified from a Group with Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland.

“What we have seen in this tournament is that nothing is easy,” said Wiegman. “The growth of the game has shown in this tournament.

“We’ve not had an easy game at all and that’s what we expect [on Monday], that it will be very competitive and we need to be at our best.” Wiegman said.

The Lionesses thrashed China 6-1 in their last game, but Wiegman says it would be inappropriate for his side to underestimate Nigeria.

“Everyone who plays us wants to beat us. That’s nothing new,” added Wiegman.

“The games have been very competitive. Nobody can be complacent because that’s inappropriate.

“I think Nigeria have done really well in this tournament and were in a very hard group. We all saw they did very well.

“They are an athletic team, quick in the transition and also want to play. We are aware of their strengths. What we will try to do is exploit their weaknesses.”

Wiegman’s side are the favorites as Nigeria have won just one of their 14 Women’s World Cup matches against European opposition.
