Following his heroic display in Club Brugge’s UEFA Champions League draw away to Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, Nigerian striker Emmanuel Dennis has written his name in a history book in style.
The lanky young attacker scored twice against the multiple European champions to help his side to an impressive and valuable 2-2 draw.
His two goals against Real Madrid means Club Bruges remains unbeaten in six Champions League matches (W1 D5), having lost eight in a row before this run.
The young forward’s opening goal against the Spanish club was their earliest in a Champions League game at eight minutes nine seconds.
Aged 21 years and 320 days, Emmanuel Dennis became the third youngest player to score at least twice in a single game against Real Madrid in the Champions League, after Alexandre Pato in 2009-10 (20y 49d) and Dele Alli in 2017-18 (21y 204d).
Dennis also became the third Nigerian to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League, after James Obiorah for Lokomotiv Moscow in 2002-03 and Ayila Yussuf for Dynamo Kyiv in 2004-05.
With the help of Dennis, Club Brugge are now unbeaten in the last 15 games in all competitions.
