Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has lauded his teammates following Nigeria’s dominant 3-0 win against Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday.
The three-time African Champions boast one of the continent’s most formidable attacking lineups, featuring Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Ademola Lookman.
In the match, it was Lookman and Osimhen who netted the goals, propelling the Super Eagles to a decisive victory.
Speaking after the match, Troost-Ekong expressed confidence in the team’s offensive capabilities.
“Everybody knows we have good attacking talent, we don’t have to name them. We played well and tried to keep the door shut at the back.”
The former Watford defender also explain the importance of creating opportunities for the forwards.
“We created chances to score, so I believe that if we gave the boys enough balls up front, they would put it away.”
Ekong also said the team is heading to the right direction under in interim gaffer Austin Eguavoen.
“Today is a good indication of the direction that we’re heading and the first step of many that we have to take to be back in action,”
“We respect Benin; the last time we played them, they won. But we have great belief in our team and our coach, who is like a family member returning to us. We knew we had to take responsibility,” he said.
