Ekong Joins PAOK Pre-season Training Tour

PAOK’s Romanian football tactician Razvan Lucescu has announced his squad list for the pre-season training camp in the Netherlands.

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has been included in the traveling squad, suggesting that he has fully recovered after being omitted from the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin due to injury.

Troost-Ekong suffered an injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and has not played any professional game since then.

He played through the pain barrier during the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, suffering a thigh injury in the second group stage match and requiring surgery after returning to Europe.

Despite his injury, he was named Player of the Tournament.

PAOK, who won their fourth league championship last season, will face Cypriot team AEK Larnaca on July 3 and Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian on July 6, before meetings with Belgian opponents Racing Genk on July 10 and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on July 13 as part of their pre-season games.

The Tottenham Hotspur academy product has been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window, but nothing has materialized yet.

PAOK’s first competitive game of the new season is against either Borac Banja Luka or Egnatia Rrogozhinë in the Champions League qualifiers on July 27.
