Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke couldn’t save his club, CSKA Moscow from defeat at home to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russia Premier league game, Wednesday.
Ejuke was action for 90 minutes and grabbed an assist for his team’s opening goal of the game in the 2-3 defeat.
The winger set up Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondo who gave the CSKA Moscow the lead in the 28 minute.
The 23-year-old Nigerian has scored just twice in his 18 league appearances for the club this season.
CSKA Moscow’s lead lasted for five minutes as Artem Dzyuba restored parity, thanks to a delightful assist from Daler Kuzyaev.
The visitors almost took the lead on the stroke of half time, but Dyzuba blasted his penalty wide after CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Hugo Akinfeev had brought down an opponent in the box.
Zenit went in front for the first time in the game five minutes after resumption, thanks to a strike from Marcus Wendel.
It went from bad to worse for CSKA Moscow as Ilzat Akhmetov was shown a straight red card in the 53rd minute and the visitors made their numerical advantage count, when Wendel again scored to complete his brace.
Nikola Vlasic later got a consolation goal for the hosts with the last kick of the game.
