Egypt could be named 2019 AFCON host ahead of S/Africa

Egypt looks like the Nation to host the 2019 AFCON ahead of South Africa and Morocco according to reports obtained from top CAF officials.

The Confederation of African FOOTBALL had earlier confirmed hosting bids from both Egypt and South Africa to host the bi-ennial championship.

Egypt last hosted the competition in 2006, while South Africa have staged it in 1996 and 2013, when they replaced war-ravaged Libya as tournament hosts.

Cameroon were recently stripped of the rights to host the AFCON after CAF said they were not ready to stage an expanded tournament of 24 teams by June 2019.

CAF will announce the new hosts for the 2019 AFCON on January 9.
