Interim head coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, has explained why Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare were not invited for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya.

Dessers and Arokodare are currently two of the most in-form Nigerian forwards in Europe this season.

Dessers has scored eight goals and provided two assists for Glasgow Rangers across all competitions this season, while Arokodare has netted six goals for KRC Genk in ten Belgian League games.

Despite their impressive form, Eguavoen opted for Kelechi Iheanacho, who is yet to find his rhythm at Sevilla, and another out-of-form forward, Taiwo Awoniyi.

“I decided to include Kelechi Iheanacho of Sevilla when it became clear that Victor Osimhen would not be fit in time,” Eguavoen said, according to Afrik-Foot.

“I considered both Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare but chose Kelechi because of his experience.”

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Libya in a double-header Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on the 11th and 15th of this month.
