Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen has announced that Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede will take charge of the CHAN Eagles as they prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Following the resignation of former coach Finidi George, Eguavoen stepped in to lead the national team, working alongside Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede, who were appointed as his assistants.
The team managed Nigeria’s matches against Benin and Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The trio were retained for the is month’s games against Libya in the qualifiers.
In addition to their AFCON responsibilities, Eguavoen and his team have been tasked with managing the CHAN Eagles for the forthcoming qualifiers.
But, Eguavoen told Brila.net that he’ll only act in a supervisory role.
He emphasized that their familiarity with the NPFL and local talent makes his assistants ideal for the role.
“I’ve spoken with my bosses, and that’s why we brought Ilechukwu, Daniel, and also Baruwa on board.
“These coaches have been in the league for many years, so even with their eyes closed they will be able to bring out 35, 40 names without blinking.” Eguavoen stated.
“They know the players well because they face them week in, week out. They will be fully in charge and I will only come to supervise because I still have work to do in the office.
“Bringing them on board was a very good thing. They know the players in the terrain so picking out players shouldn’t be any problem.”
