Eguavoen blames referee for Super Eagles AFCON exit

Super Eagles interim boss, Austin Eguavoen said the center referee wasn’t fair to his side, after losing to Tunisia on Sunday.

The Super Eagles to go far in the in the Africa Cup of Nations , but they kissed the competition goodbye, after a shocking defeat against Tunisia in the round of 16.

Youssef Msakni made the difference in the tie, when his 25 yard shot beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, the few minutes after the restart.

However, the Super Eagles failed to find the important leveller and bowed out of the competition.

Reflecting on what transpired on the pitch, Eguaveon said the referee got some of his decisions wrong and it affectes the outcome of the game.

“The most painful thing is that we got advantage to break away, but the referee always call it back and that’s not fair, otherwise I would have say congratulations to Tunisia.

“In a game of football, when there is foul, but the ball isn’t advantageous position, you’ll let it run, but he always call us ball and that was wrong “

“But I’ve talked to the players, they can’t buried their head down, they have to get up and qualify Nigeria for the World Cup ” He said in the press conference.”
