Eguavoen Approves Jose Peseiro Stay
93
The technical director of Nigerian Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen has backed Jose Peseiro to continue as coach of the Super Eagles.
Peseiro is currently out of contract, and is yet to put pen to paper for a new deal.
Speaking with BRL, Eguavoen said that the coach will be provided with confidence and trust, should he sign to continue with the Super Eagles.
“He is doing well, he has tried a lot,” Eguavoen said about Peseiro. “His performance and the entire team did well at the last AFCON.
“For me, I’ll say he should continue because if a new person comes in, it’ll be a new system. Now, we should be a bit flexible going forward.”
“People said he played defensive during the tournament because of the personnel on the field, people thought it was defensive.
“Defensive, he could not get the ball, offensive he could get the ball. The quality of people like Aina and Zaidu to go back and forth was key.”
“In the first game, he played with a back four and he changed to a 3-4-3 because you have to execute your game plan due to the players at your disposal.
“However, we need to be really flexible. We know how sharp we were in the wings. Although, some players did not live up to expectations, his selections were not bad.”
“In a nutshell, I’ll say Peseiro stay. We’ll give him an enabling environment and confidence, and we’ll continue to monitor his performance. If we provide favourable conditions, feel the people, understand the culture, i think he’ll give us better results.”
