Edouard Mendy has delivered a strong criticism of the leadership of the CAF following the controversy surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations, which saw Senegal stripped of the title.
Speaking after Senegal’s friendly match against Peru at the Stade de France, Mendy expressed deep frustration.

Mendy emphasized that African football has evolved significantly in terms of talent and competitiveness, producing world class players and strong national teams.
However, he believes that the administrative side has failed to keep pace, with governance issues continuing to damage the credibility of the game.
“You don’t have any reason to tell me to feel like I am not a champion,” Mendy said. “What you feel is what everyone feels everyone believes Senegal are the champions.
“There was a game on the field and we won it. There was another game off the field which we couldn’t control. The football played by African players is progressing faster than the decisions made in the offices.
“It’s a shame for Africa, and things have to change. We need to be on the same level everywhere.”

During the tournament, Mendy played a crucial role in Senegal’s success.
He featured throughout the competition and delivered key performances, including a decisive penalty save against Morocco’s Brahim Díaz in the final.
Senegal eventually secured victory in extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the winning goal.
However, after Morocco’s initial petition to the Disciplinary Committee over Senegal’s breach of the competition rules, which was thrown out, the CAF judiciary committee received the RMFF appeal and ruled in its favor.
The Appeal board stripped the Teranga Lions off the AFCON title.
Senegal’s FA have since rejected the decision and has taken the case to CAS.
