As Edo Queens prepare for their debut in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, the Nigerian club is gearing up to face Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Coach Moses Aduku said his team is determined and ready to compete against Africa’s best.
“This is a dream opportunity for us to evaluate ourselves against high-level teams.”
“We have already played against some of the best teams and managed to get results in the qualifiers. We are therefore confident in our ability to perform well here, and we are determined to remain competitive while giving the best of ourselves.”
The CAF Women’s Champions League presents a new level of competition for Edo Queens, as they grouped alongside defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
While Sundowns come with the experience of two tournament victories, Edo Queens are set to bring their unique strengths and the unpredictability.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia’s coach, Heye Gizaw Birhanu, also shared insights into their preparations.
Birhanu remarked on their perseverance through multiple qualification attempts and their focus now that they have secured a place in the tournament.
“After three attempts, we are finally here and yes, it is a good thing. However, this should not be taken for granted; now that we are there, we must give the best of ourselves and continue to surpass ourselves.”
“There is still a lot of work to be done. Qualifying was the first step, now we need to continue to compete.”
