Nigeria-eligible forward Edna Imade played a pivotal role as Granada claimed a 4-2 victory over Sevilla in the Round of 16 of the Copa de la Reina on Saturday.
Imade not only scored but also provided an assist to help propel her side into the quarter-finals of Spain’s premier cup competition.
Granada took the lead in the 12th minute with a stunning free kick from Isabel Alvarez, who curled a left-foot strike into the top corner from just outside the box.
Sevilla responded in the 39th minute, with Alba Cetrato equalizing with a powerful strike from inside the box to make it 1-1.
However, Granada quickly regained the lead when Imade, displaying remarkable strength and skill, muscled past three Sevilla defenders before calmly firing a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper in the 44th minute to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Imade continued to shine. In the 66th minute, her well-timed cross found Laura Perez, who made no mistake, tapping in to extend Granada’s lead to 3-1.
Perez sealed her brace in the 70th minute, making it 4-1, before Sevilla’s Lucia Moral pulled one back for the visitors in the 75th minute, but it was too little too late.
Imade, who played the full 90 minutes, has been in sensational form this season, having scored nine goals in 13 league appearances.
Her goal and assist on Saturday were instrumental in Granada’s passage into the Copa de la Reina quarter-finals, where they will hope to continue their impressive cup run.
