President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has stated that Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Madagascar is an eye-opener and one that will eventually be a blessing in disguise for the Super Eagles who got a rude awakening from the AFCON debutant.Â
Pinnick said in a chat gathered by www.brila.net while addressing the team after the match urged the players to redouble their effort and note from the defeat that no team can be underrated at the AFCON and also charged the team to bounce back in their next game noting that the team at this point also need to be ready to face any opposition that comes at the next stage.
“It might be a bad day but it’s not a sad day. It’s an eye opener that no team can be underestimated. No team should be underrated. It’s also an eye opener that we were preparing to play a weak team at the next round but now there is no weak team in the AFCON. So now, let the big team come and let’s be ready for the big team.”
Nigeria finished second in group B behind AFCON debutant Madagascar.
