Dutch legend berates Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder over Bassey role

Dutch Legend Ruud Gullit suggests that, Ajax Coach Alfred Schreuder is playing Calvin Bassey out of position to accommodate Dailey Blind.

Alfred Schreuder has deployed the Nigerian international to the left back position in the last three games, while Blind moved to the central defense.

While Bassey contributed a goal and assist, Blind struggled to make an impression and was largely at fault for the big defeat at Napoli in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday.

The former Manchester United defender was caught napping on the ball by Victor Osimhen, who then slot the ball into an empty net.

As reported by Daily Record, Gullit stated that Blind is not at his best, adding that the decision to move Bassey away from his natural position is to ensure Blind keeps getting into the team.

Gullit said, “It sometimes seems like he has to play (Blind). It seems that everything is being turned to make him play. That’s how I see it.

“At one point I saw that he was back in the centre against Napoli, so that Calvin Bassey suddenly had to play as left back.”

“Blind is one of the best players on the ball, but defensively… It’s hard for him right now. It seems like a place has to be created for him. It seems that way,” Gullit explained.
