D’Tigress Face Hosts in Women’s Afrobasket Semi-finals

Nigeria Women Basketball Team, D’Tigress, are through to the semi-final of 2023 Women’s Afrobasket Championship following a comeback win over Mozambique on Wednesday.

D’Tigress fought hard to snatch a win 59-52 over Mozambique after trailing during halftime at the BK Arena.

 

 

The defending Champions had to come back from a 14 point deficit to win the game, with Amy Okonkwo once again leading the charge.

She delivered 17 points, 6 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steal and 2 blocks. Elizabeth Balogun also put up a stellar performance, scoring 12 points.

Additionally, Murjanatu Musa dropped 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

The last time D’Tigress lost a game at the Afrobasket was in the semis of the 2015 edition – they lost by 1 point to host Cameroon.

Rena Wakama’s side are two wins away from retaining their Champions, and secured fourth consecutive title. Senegal is the only team to ever do so (1974-1981).

D’tigress will face Rwanda for a place in the final later today.
