D’tigress’ Amy Okonkwo targets first Afrobasket title

Amy Okonkwo says D’tigress are ready for the 2021 AfroBasket against Mali in Cameroon this Sunday evening.

Okonkwo was the star of the show when Nigeria defeated Senegal semi final contest to book a final place against the Malian.

Now they have played 20 Afrobasket matches unbeaten and indeedhave stayed unbeaten in every African competition since 2017.

“I am happy to be a part of the team this time. It is one thing towatch these women play big games on the court but it is somethingvery special to be a part of the team playing the final match on thecourt. I am excited and honoured too.” he said.

Amy Okonkwo is making her debut in Afrobasket and she’s likely to be among the starters for the final against Mali.

The Nigerian side are unbeaten in the competition since 2017 after playing twenty matches.

D’Tigress have also beaten Mali in their last two AfroBasketmeetings in 2017 (Bamako) and 2019 (Dakar).
