Josh Okogie dropped 11 points on game night against Brooklyn Nets, but his biggest contribution to Minnesota Timberwolves’ 127-126 overtime win was guarding Kyrie Irving, who had locked in on a Buzzer shot.
Okogie delivered and Irving missed while on 50 points, as the visitors walked away with a win from Barclays Center.
The 21 year-old who showed up big time at the World Cup with D’Tigers, got just over 14 minutes on the floor the entire night and he posted; in addition to his double digits points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
Per Larry Fisher [Sports Money and Forbes], Minnesota Timberwolves spent their portion of the final timeout to discuss defending Irving.
During that strategy session, coach Ryan Saunders delivered a message to Josh Okogie that he would be assigned to shadow Irving.
According to Saunders, Okogie responded with a confident “You Got It”.
A few seconds later, Okogie would be the answer to a trivia question as the defender who was guarding Irving when his 15-foot fadeaway at the buzzer missed.
Last season one of the highlights of Okogie’s game was a massive swat on MVP contender and Houston Rockets Star James Harden.
