Minister of Sports, John Owan Enoh has encouraged Nigerian athletes to strive for excellence as they prepare to compete in the Paris Olympics.

Speaking at a send-off ceremony organized by the ministry, Enoh spoke on the high expectations placed on the athletes and urged them to aim for podium finishes and medals.

He said, “Our athletes have the world’s responsibility to see how often the country is going to have podium appearance, podium performance.”

He highlighted that Nigerians expect their sportsmen and women to perform well regardless of any challenge.

“This is an Olympic year that the country should record tremendous success in the Paralympic year and I think that our expectations are high and we have no doubt that they will be met. This sector that you represent, the sporting sector, is a sector that Nigerians don’t want to make any excuse for.”

Enoh concluded, “No matter how imperfect we may be doing otherwise, elsewhere, our countrymen and women expect perfection from our sportsmen and women. It’s a big expectation.“
