Former D’Tigers captain Olumide Oyedeji has slammed claims that the Nigeria basketball leagues don’t produce top players and are not good enough.
The 2015 AfroBasket champion waded into the debate of the below par performance of home based players for at the Basketball even of the XXI Commonwealth Games.
In a chat with Brila.net Oyedeji blamed tokenism in the selection of players rather than the strength of the Premier league.
Oyedeji said a lot has been achieved in the past with home-based players. He admonished the NBBF to ‘simply go about their work on development rather than branding the league in Nigeria bad.’
‘We won the AfroBasket women championship with more than five local based players in the team. At the World Cup qualifiers we had African players and even in 2015 we had local based players in the team.’
