Do It Like Finidi! Ogunmodede Tasks Ex-Players on NPFL Coaching Roles

Head Coach of Remo Stars FC, Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed his delight over the appointment of Finidi George as the new head coach of Rivers United.

Ogunmodede emphasized the positive impact that more Nigerian ex-players taking up coaching roles could have on the NPFL.

During an interview with Brila Media, Ogunmodede highlighted the potential benefits of having former players like Finidi, who have extensive experience and knowledge of the game, involved in the league.

He believes that their presence could enhance the quality of football, foster healthy competition, and ultimately improve the development of players and the league as a whole, which would be beneficial for Nigerian football on the international stage.

“Extremely happy. Imagine we have a Finidi, we have an Oliseh, we have Amuneke. Our league will also be the talk of the continent,” Ogunmodede argued.

“It’s important to have these experienced individuals contribute to the development of our football. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that can significantly improve the standard of the league.”

However, Ogunmodede expressed concern over the financial constraints that plague the NPFL, making it difficult to attract and retain talented coaches, especially former players who could bring valuable insights and skills to the league.

“The money is not encouraging. The money is extremely not encouraging,” Ogunmodede lamented. “If a team in Rwanda can pay coaches $10,000 to $15,000, and we are here paying less than a million naira for a coach, which is less than $1,000 what do you expect?”

“This is a coach that goes to one single match. Everybody wants money from him, everybody,” Ogunmodede stressed.
