Following the suspension of Nigeria’s 200 metres national record-holder, Divine Oduduru, by the Athletics Integrity Unit over two anti-doping violations, Long distance runner, Adamu Shehu Muazu has charged local based Athletes to get educated on doping rules and it’s consequences.
In a chat with www.brila.net, Shehu urged the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and coaches to make conscious efforts to enlighten and ensure discipline of Athletes.
“You have to know the rules and regulations of everything that you are doing, but in Nigeria most Athletes don’t know what substances will disqualify them from participating or competing,” said Muazu reacting to the news of Oduduru’s suspension.
“There are some drugs you are not supposed to take even one week before the competition, even anti Malaria drugs, you are not supposed to take it unless you have a doctor’s prescription.”
“It is the responsibility of the Federation, if we have a working Federation we the elite Athletes are supposed to have seminars were they will educate us on what to do and what not to do.
“Through the Athletics Federation, coaches should teach their Athletes these things. If you advise them they will not take anything that will make them fall victim at the end of the day.”
