‘Did It for Injured Olisa Ndah’, Orlando Pirates Crowned Cup Winners

Super Eagles defender, Olisa Ndah has added another trophy to his impressive resume, winning the MTN 8 title with Orlando Pirates.

This marks a historic third consecutive cup victory for the Buccaneers in the competition – and they keep the trophy.

Orlando Pirates secured a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch in an electrifying final at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

It was level at 1-1 as it neared extra time, but substitute Relebohile Mofokeng came off the bench to turn the game around.

The breakthrough moment came when Tshegofatso Mabasa scored from a controversial free kick, giving Pirates a 2-1 lead.

Just five minutes later, Mofokeng found the back of the net, sealing a 3-1 victory for the Buccaneers.

Thabiso Sesane, who was named Man of the Match, dedicated his award to Ndah, the team’s injured captain, who missed the final after sustaining an injury in their last league match.

He will miss the upcoming AFCON qualifiers for the Nigeria national team, having been ruled out of international duty due to the injury.

“Olisa’s leadership and presence were greatly missed, but we’re thrilled to have won this title for him and the team,” Sesane said.

Though there is no official update on his recovery, Ndah is reportedly eager to return to the pitch soon.

Prior to his injury, the 26-year-old had expressed his excitement about leading the team into the MTN 8 final.

“I think it’s an opportunity, I’m really excited for it but I wasn’t expecting it at all.  It’s just an opportunity given to me by the club, which I appreciate. Getting into the finals of the MTN8 again [is massive] and I think we’re going to have a great season and I’m excited.”

Despite being sidelined, Ndah’s influence continues to resonate within the team, as they aim for further success this season.
