Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has responded to popular football outfits Whoscoored.com’s statistics on Taiwo Awoniyi’s numbers in the German Bundesliga last season.

According to the stat Awoniyi missed the most chances in the League last season, despite scoring fifteen goals.

The tweet read “Only Robert Lewandowski (32) and Andre Silva (17) missed more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities than Taiwo Awoniyi (16) in the Bundesliga last season.”

However, Dessers wasn’t happy with tweet, defended the 24-year-old his compatriot.

“I don’t really like this stat, because I think it’s a quality to create this much clear cut chances (for yourself) as a striker. So when you create more, it’s obvious you miss more,”

“Or you should at least put in perspective with conversion rate or number of goals scored,” the KRC Genk Forward responded in his tweet.

Despite the criticisms, Awoniyi helped Union Berlin finish fifth in the Bundesliga last season — scoring fifteen goals.
